Step into the world of Fantasy Rigging and you’ll quickly realize that what Don Mumma does is more than just boat work — it’s a craft.

Rigging, for the uninitiated, is the hidden architecture of a performance boat. It’s where raw fiberglass and horsepower get transformed into something that not only runs but runs flawlessly. Think of it as the veins, muscles, and bones that bring a boat to life: the steering, the fuel lines, the engine mounts, the hardware — every detail that keeps a vessel steady at speed and safe under pressure.

Don has been at it for decades, carrying forward a three-generation legacy rooted in Southern California’s drag and circle boat racing scene. In his Santa Ana workshop, sparks fly, aluminum sings under the CNC, and every piece of hardware is placed with a racer’s eye for precision. His builds have become legends in their own right — tough, sleek, and fine-tuned to shave seconds off the water.

Among boaters, the name Fantasy Rigging isn’t just a shop — it’s shorthand for craftsmanship, reliability, and style. Don doesn’t just rig boats; he engineers confidence at 100 mph.

I’m excited to have had the opportunity to launch our new series with Don Mumma of Fantasy Rigging, father to one of my best friends, Tyler Mumma. Watching Don at work on the water took me right back to my own upbringing in Southern California, where my dad was pioneering snowboarding and building the tooling and presses that helped shape the sport.

Being out at Lake Elsinore — the action sports capital of the world — and capturing Don putting one of his latest creations to the test was something special. Here are a few frames from a day that meant a lot to me, both personally and as the start of this new chapter for 925 Originals.

Don Mumma puts one of our best sellers, the Foreman Flannel Shirt, through the ultimate test. Speed, precision, and trust define his work on the water – the same qualities built into every stitch. Built 925 Tough to keep pace at full throttle...

Below are a few of Don's favorites that we photographed at his shop — all available now in store at Nordstrom or directly from our website in the “Shop” section.

When Don Mumma talks engines, you listen. In this session it's a Boss 429 with a Holman-Moody block — pure muscle, pure history. But Don's world doesn't stop at horsepower. Rigging is where the art comes in: every bracket, every mount, every piece of aluminum work is cut, shaped, and placed by hand. It's the unseen craft that makes raw power ride smooth at 100 mph.
